Street Art in the starting blocks!

Edito #78 | August – September 2024

After an intense preparation period, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are now underway.
Street artists have naturally seized the opportunity of this sporting event with its economic and social aspects. Known for his social awareness, the Lyon-based artist Brusk takes a critical look at these new Games through his posters Faites vos Jeux, questioning their impact on the working class and their neighbourhoods.
Street Art is also enjoying exceptional visibility during the Olympic Games through the exhibition We Are Here at the Petit Palais, which is surrounded by various Olympian sites (Grand Palais, Invalides, Concorde…), as well as the VISA campaign entrusted to six street artists, highlighting the company’s support to local businesses.
While Street Art draws part of its inspiration from social issues, it also adopts and reinterprets techniques from around the world, including popular crafts such as tapestry, lace, ceramics, and illumination. And, as Street Art festivals dot our landscape, we are taking a closer look at Poésie Urbaine and its first edition in Grasse.
This issue also features New York graffiti legends such as Blade, who became the king of trains starting in the early 1970s, and Carlos Mare, a pioneer of hip-hop. Still influenced by graffiti, Mist plays with the codes of wildstyle, and Bond Truluv innovates using augmented reality in his vibrant creations. Meanwhile, Lady M, a fan of spatial geometry, creates ‘figurative abstraction’. The upcoming Paralympic Games will undoubtedly be yet another opportunity for street artists to lead the way.

Street Art in quest for gold.
